HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind. — A Missouri man will go on trial for murder on Wednesday for the killing of an Indiana state trooper during a high-speed pursuit in summer 2023.
Eddie Jones, 20, of Sikeston, Missouri, is charged with murder, resisting law enforcement and auto theft in the killing of Trooper Aaron Smith.
The pursuit began in the 2900 block of Kentucky Avenue in Indianapolis, where state troopers attempted to pull over a stolen vehicle that was allegedly being driven by Jones. Troopers chased the suspect vehicle to Ronald Reagan Parkway, where Smith was attempting to deploy stop sticks near the entrance to the Interstate 70 Westbound on-ramp and terminate the pursuit.
INDOT video in the area showed the vehicle swerve toward Smith as he threw the stop sticks. Smith was hit and thrown into the air. The suspect’s vehicle then crashed after hitting the trooper…
