Dozens turn out to court amid Indiana animal neglect case

WARRICK COUNTY, Ind. (WEVV) — Shayna Burko’s courtroom appearance has drawn significant attention, as she faces her third major animal-related case in Southern Indiana.

Vanderburgh Humane Society put out a call to social media, asking for community support on this third incident, saying in part, “We are frustrated and beyond tired of everyone’s time being wasted for months, but we will have VHS representation there tomorrow as well. If you can make it before heading in to work, please join us. We suspect that the reason behind this is that they think fewer people will show up on short notice.”

Burko arrived in a gray sweatshirt, escorted by sheriff’s deputies after she says she received death threats. The judge ruled that Burko cannot have any animals while her case is pending, though she might be allowed a service dog if she provides credible documentation by Thursday.
