Punch Bowl Social faces eviction over unpaid rent

INDIANAPOLIS — The owner of Circle Centre Mall claims Punch Bowl Social, a popular restaurant located on the mall’s ground level, owes nearly $700,000 in back rent.

In a lawsuit filed last week in Marion County court, Hendricks Commercial Properties asked the court to evict the restaurant from the property and order it to pay outstanding rent, attorney fees, interest, late charges and other legal expenses.

Punch Bowl Social owes $669,114 in back rent and unpaid utility bills dating back to June, according to the lawsuit. Court documents reveal how the two sides were temporarily at an agreement after signing a new lease in August.

At the time the lease was signed, Punch Bowl was in default of nearly $855,000 due to unpaid rent. Under the terms of the new lease, Punch Bowl agreed to pay Hendricks Commercial Properties an initial payment of $400,000 followed by a second payment of $258,000 by no later than Sept. 15, in order to bring the restaurant into compliance…
