Beef prices are the meat of higher food bills
The beef and veal category is up nearly 15%, while overall food is up 3.1%, according to the latest Consumer Price Index data.
The start of 2025 saw the country’s lowest cattle numbers since 1951. Severe drought over the past few years has discouraged cattle being retained for breeding and the herds haven’t recovered.
Kroger cutting prices to match competitors
