Indiana family questions whether or not fatal self-defense shooting was justified

INDIANAPOLIS — Billy Ray McKinney’s family said he had problems, but not the type that would lead him to carry a gun and be shot to death by another motorist in self-defense.

“He has had drug charges in the past, so he’s never been known to carry a gun, and he’s not a violent person,” said Billy Ray’s sister, Brenda McKinney. ”They said he had a gun. And the other driver said that he had pulled a gun on him, so then he pulled his gun out and shot him.”

McKinney was killed after fleeing a downtown fender bender, and it led him to a vacant lot up against a tree line in the 3400 block of Southeastern Avenue last June 29th
