Deadly Attempted Robbery Inside Irvington Boutique Leaves 68-Year-Old Woman Dead; Suspect Dies From Self-Inflicted Gunshot

Indianapolis, IN – A quiet Thursday evening in Irvington was shattered when an attempted robbery inside a local clothing store ended in two deaths, including a 68-year-old woman who was shot inside the boutique.

A heavy police presence filled East Washington Street after the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a reported shooting around 6:45 p.m. on December 4. Officers arrived to find Terri Lee Heady, 68, suffering from gunshot wounds inside Josephine’s, a women’s clothing store located at 5620 E. Washington St. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

What Investigators Say Happened

According to IMPD East District Cmdr. Mike Leepper, early evidence indicates the shooting may have stemmed from a botched robbery attempt. Witness statements and scene details led officers to identify a male suspect who had fled moments after the gunfire.

Authorities confirmed the suspect as Terry E. Morgan, 58. Officers located Morgan hiding behind a tree in the 30 block of North Layman Street, only a short distance from the store.
