INDIANAPOLIS — A mother, whose 3-year-old son got ahold of her boyfriend’s gun and shot himself in a car in an Indianapolis Department of Public Works parking lot in August 2024, was sentenced Thursday.
On Dec. 11, Anaya Velasquez received a sentence of one year self-reporting to Community Corrections and one year of probation after she pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury.
The incident happened in the 2500 block of South Belmont Avenue, near West Raymond and South Harding streets, around 5 p.m. on Aug. 27, 2024. Velasquez was allegedly on the phone in the driver’s seat. Her boyfriend, Antreaun Rice, was allegedly playing with three other children in the parking lot…
