Fewer homicides in 2025 leads to significantly higher clearance rate by IMPD

INDIANAPOLIS — Fewer homicides this year in Indianapolis have translated into a significantly higher number of murder cases being solved, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

While only half of this year’s 158 homicides have been cleared, the decrease in violence has allowed more than 50 homicides from prior years to be cleared.

Those solved cases counted toward this year’s clearance rate.
