Indianapolis man searching for his grandpa’s WWII uniform after car was stolen

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man is hoping for a Christmas miracle after his mother’s car was stolen from a hotel on the south side of the city.

Joe Melillo’s mother was in town to celebrate the holiday and was staying at the Home2Suites near County Line Road and I-65. He said that when she went somewhere on Friday morning, she discovered her white Toyota Highlander was gone.

“In the back of the car were all the Christmas gifts for my kids, including a gift for me, which was my grandfather‘s World War II uniform,” Melillo said. “A car can be replaced. We don’t really care about that, but 80 years of history lost because of greed at Christmas is a terrible story.”

Melillo said his grandfather was a Merchant Marine during World War II. He died before Melillo was born, but his family has continually held on to his uniform, and this Christmas, it was going to be passed down to him…
