Hundreds of popular grocery, drugstore items recalled due to ‘filth’ at Midwest distribution center

Hundreds of popular items sold under recognizable brand names in small grocery stores and markets across Indiana and Minnesota are being recalled after it was found they may be contaminated with Salmonella and “filth” like rodent, bird and insect droppings, according to a release from the Food and Drug Administration.

Minnesota-based Gold Star Distribution LLC, a wholesale distributor of products like over-the-counter medication, popular packaged snacks, cosmetic goods and pet food, issued the recall Dec. 26 “due to the presence of rodent and aviation contamination” at their Minneapolis facility.

The FDA said the distribution center was operating under “insanitary conditions, including the presence of rodent excreta, rodent urine, and bird droppings in areas where medical devices, drugs, human food, pet food, and cosmetic products were held.”…
