IMPD to make shift change for the first time in decades

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD patrol officers will start working 10-hour shifts on Saturday after working the same schedule for about 30 years.

Active members of IMPD voted back in September and approved the schedule change. IMPD Chief Chris Bailey said it was the result of the city’s labor agreement with the Fraternal Order of Police.

Patrol officers currently work 8.5-hour shifts, six days in a row with three days off. The change will have officers working 10-hour days, rotating between five days on with three days off and four days on with four days off…
