Crash and fire unfold near overpass bridge, force officials to close all lanes of Interstate 65 northbound on south side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — A crash and fire forced officials to close Interstate 65 northbound on the south side of Indianapolis Sunday night.

According to a notification from the Indiana Department of Transportation, all lanes of I-65 northbound were shut down at mile marker 109 near Raymond Street around 6:30 p.m. INDOT’s initial notification indicated that a crash was the reason for the closure.

A second notification on the road closure, which INDOT sent around 7:40 p.m., reported that an I-65 overpass bridge over railroad tracks had been damaged by fire near mile marker 109 and Raymond Street.

A bridge inspector was called to the scene to examine the damage the fire caused. Indiana State Police — the agency tasked with investigating the crash and fire — diverted traffic off of the interstate onto Raymond Street while crews worked at mile marker 109…
