INDIANAPOLIS β€” Student protests have been making headlines across Indiana in recent days as students join a national wave of protests tied to immigration enforcement and ICE activity. Hundreds of students have walked out of class to call for change.

Several Southport High School students told 13News they were suspended after their walkout protest.

The Plainfield superintendent sent a message to the district ahead of a planned Feb. 6 protest, warning, β€œIn alignment with our student handbook, students who choose to participate in a walk-out will be marked truant, as such actions fall outside our attendance and safety guidelines. A building administrator will direct the student to return to class; otherwise, the action will be deemed insubordination, which carries a three-day suspension.”…
