Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police calls for bail restrictions following attacks on officers
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The leader of the Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police union invoked recent high-profile attacks on officers as he advocated for a change to the state constitution, which could restrict access to bail in an unknown number of criminal prosecutions.
Senate Joint Resolution 1 is a proposed constitutional amendment to withhold bail from people considered a threat to the community when there’s a strong presumption of guilt. The bail restrictions are already in place for crimes of murder and treason, but the updated language would include all offenses.
