Indiana’s social media crackdown for children means parents will have to hand over sensitive information

INDIANAPOLIS — Hoosier parents will soon have to hand over sensitive personal information to Big Tech companies if they want to allow their children to access popular social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

On Friday, an Indiana bill that cracks down on social media restrictions for Hoosier children passed its final hurdle. Now, the bill is on its way to Indiana Gov. Mike Braun’s desk, where it awaits his signature to be officially signed into law.

Braun was one of the biggest proponents of the social media crackdown. In the wake of 17-year-old Hailey Buzbee’s disappearance and death, the governor called on lawmakers to pass legislation to restrict Hoosier children’s access to popular social media platforms where adults often prey on underage victims…
