‘Should not be happening’ | IMPD Downtown District commander reacts to weekend violence in downtown Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — A taste of summer weather brought plenty of people and several incidents of violence to downtown Indianapolis.

The weekend violence began early Saturday morning, March 7 with a shooting in the 100 block of East Washington Street, near North Pennsylvania Street. Police arrested a 29-year-old man who allegedly shot and critically injured another man. According to court documents, the shooting stemmed from a fight, and the shooter is claiming self-defense after surveillance video shows two men attacking him before the shooting.

IMPD said aggravated assault detectives arrested a 29-year-old man on preliminary charges of robbery, criminal confinement and strangulation…
