Survivor recounts tornado in Indiana that claimed lives of his neighbors

LAKE VILLAGE, Ind. (WGN) — The survivor of a suspected tornado that claimed the lives of two of his neighbors in Indiana shared his experience of coming face-to-face with the deadly storm on Wednesday.

“I was in my driveway. And I was just saying, ‘I want to live. Spare me,” said Hugh Ulrich, who spoke to NewsNation local affiliate WGN, lamenting about the twister that tore through his property in Lake Village while he was inside his truck.

“I’m looking in my rearview mirror, and the whole thing was filled with a black cloud, and I said, ‘That’s the tornado, and it’s right behind my truck. It’s about to touch me,’ and it did,” Ulrich stated.

Model shows growing odds of ‘Super El Nino’

Ulrich said he made his way back to his property Wednesday morning, accompanied by a sheriff deputy with blood-stained glasses, a missing lens, and some scatches. Severe weather passing through left his property covered in toppled trees and debris.

“The windows were just thrown out and the trees came in, so one of them but nothing harmed. I’m an old man, you know?” Ulrich said. “The people right next door were wiped out.”…
