INDIANAPOLIS — A settlement has been reached after the family of Herman Whitfield III filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Indianapolis and six IMPD officers.
According to the settlement obtained by FOX59/CBS4, the defendants agreed to pay Whitfield’s family a sum of $3,750,000. The payment will be split into three separate installments and must be delivered, in full, to Whitfield’s estate by Jan. 31, 2028.
Police were called to Whitfield’s home on April 25, 2022, after his mother called 911 due to her 39-year-old son suffering a mental health episode. She asked for an ambulance. Instead, police officers ended up deploying a Taser and, according to the lawsuit, crushed the breath from Whitfield…
