Indiana police warn of e-bike and e-scooter regulations

WASHINGTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local police department is warning Hoosiers about regulations regarding e-bikes and e-scooters, as more people are getting outdoors in the warm weather.

The Washington Police Department made a social media post outlining the regulations of e-bikes and e-scooters, after officials said the department has seen a “big increase” in their use recently.

Under Indiana law, an electric bike is not considered a motor vehicle. For one of these vehicles to be considered an e-bike or e-scooter, it must have operating pedals, a motor of 750-watts or less and a maximum assisted speed of no more than 28 mph.
