INDIANAPOLIS — A deadly shooting at a post-prom party inside a short-term rental home on Indianapolis’ north side is prompting renewed debate over Airbnb regulations, neighborhood safety and gun violence.
Neighbors, city leaders, police and community members gathered Wednesday night, May 6, at a church in the Meridian-Kessler neighborhood to discuss what led up to the shooting and how to prevent similar violence in the future.
The shooting happened early Sunday morning, May 3, at a home in the 4000 block of North Park Avenue that had been rented for a gathering following prom festivities. One woman was killed and three others were injured after gunfire erupted at the party.
According to city officials, the property had not been registered with Indianapolis as a short-term rental, despite city requirements that Airbnb- and VRBO-style properties be listed through the landlord registry…
