INDIANAPOLIS — Figuring out what you want to do in life isn’t always easy.

For Breyonna Brewer, it wasn’t until she found herself in a a difficult situation that she realized she wanted to follow in her mom’s footsteps.

Breyonna was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy at the age of 7. She managed her symptoms well until, at 24 years old, something didn’t feel right. She ended up being admitted to IU Health Methodist Hospital for about three months, waiting for a heart transplant. That was in February 2021, at the height of COVID-19 hospital restrictions…
