COURT WATCH: Indigent, Unhoused Man Nearly Faces 30 Days in Jail Over Unaffordable Program Fee

SANTA ANA, Calif. — An indigent and unhoused man nearly faced 30 days in jail Tuesday because he could not afford the enrollment fee for a court-ordered treatment program, after his defense attorney acknowledged her office had neglected to inform the court of his inability to pay.

The accused was charged with child abuse but was found not guilty of the charge. A jury found the man guilty of a lesser-included offense in February 2026.
