The Newport Beach Police Department shared body camera video on Friday of the rescue of five dogs trapped in a hot car to warn pet owners of the dangers as temperatures spike across Southern California.
Police said a Newport PD Animal Control officer responded to a vehicle on May 18 in the 2400 block of Holly Lane, where the five dogs were seen trapped inside with “windows slightly cracked open, most confined in cages, and showing signs of distress” as temperatures climbed inside.
The officer is seen on video breaking the window to rescue the animals due to the immediate safety risk.
After the animals were rescued, they were evaluated by a veterinarian and found to have body temperatures at a level that can be deadly for dogs, police said…
