Silverado Canyon residents stay put despite evacuation warning, landslide risk

Despite a voluntary evacuation warning due to torrential rainfall Monday, residents in Silverado Canyon are staying put.

While Silverado Creek is running at full capacity, there’s currently no immediate danger to homes, but the rain is expected to continue into Tuesday. Orange County Fire Captain Thanh Nguyen told KNX News he’s concerned that the downpour could get the ground moving near the canyon’s burn scar areas.

KNX News’ Pete Demetriou reports that firefighters have told Silverado Canyon residents about the danger, but most of them aren’t going anywhere yet. Locals whose homes are in the path of water have sandbags put up, and some are keeping their cars parked in the driveway with the noses out so they can get out easily if it becomes necessary.
