California driver pulled over after hitting something, discovers a body underneath vehicle

A somber incident unfolded in the early hours of February 17, 2024, when the Santa Ana Police Department received numerous distress calls regarding a traffic collision at 4:27 a.m. The collision, involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, occurred at the intersection of Orange Street and Edinger Avenue.

Swiftly responding to the scene, Santa Ana Police Officers, in collaboration with the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), discovered a heartbreaking scene. OCFA personnel pronounced the pedestrian, whose identity has not been disclosed, deceased at the site of the collision.

According to the preliminary investigation conducted by the Santa Ana Police Department, the driver of the vehicle was traveling northbound on Orange Street, approaching Edinger Avenue. The driver came to a stop, suspecting that the vehicle had run over an object. Upon exiting the vehicle, the driver made the tragic discovery that a pedestrian was trapped underneath, police said.

Demonstrating responsibility and cooperation, the driver remained at the scene, providing valuable information for the ongoing investigation. As of now, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be contributing factors to the collision. However, the Santa Ana Police Department’s Collision Investigations Unit (CIU) is actively probing the incident to determine the root cause, police added.
