18 Apache Junction choir, drama students to attend music theatre workshop

Apache Junction High School choir and drama students will travel to Disneyland in Anaheim, California, to attend a music theatre workshop Feb. 20-22. The trip will be paid out of student funds.

The AJUSD Governing Board on Dec. 10 voted unanimously to approve the out-of-state travel.

A total of 18 students and two chaperons are to attend. Total cost of $9,000 includes $1,800 for transportation and $1,600 for meals and lodging, according to a field trip request form.

“Trips like this are such a great experience for our students with many learning opportunities along with group bonding experiences and just plain fun. We are planning to attend a medieval dinner theatre and also a Disneyland musical theatre workshop which will provide a great learning experience for both our choir and drama students,” Choir Teacher Michelle Iglewski and Drama Teacher Paul Lanphear said in a letter to the governing board.

“From my past experiences of taking performing ensembles on various trips, it has been an amazing opportunity for all involved. Students not only experience a professional-level performance workshop, but they get to explore the joys of travel and the uniqueness of new
experiences,” they wrote.
