Lucky California visitor nearly throws Winning $1 Million Mega Millions Ticket in the trash

NEWPORT BEACH, CA – A lucky traveler nearly missed out on a life-changing prize after almost throwing away his winning lottery ticket, according to the California Lottery Commission. While passing through California, Joaquin Vaughn Redo and his family made a stop at Pavilions on Newport Coast Drive in Newport Beach. Along with picking up essentials, they casually purchased a Mega Millions ticket.

Weeks later, Vaughn Redo stumbled upon the forgotten ticket and considered tossing it. “I’ve never won the lottery,” he admitted. But after checking the numbers, he was stunned—he had matched five numbers in the August 16, 2024, drawing, winning $1,016,356. Now, he plans to use his unexpected windfall for a house down payment.
