Armed Robbery Murder Charge: Korean Siblings Plead Not Guilty

Two Korean siblings have pleaded not guilty to an armed robbery murder charge in connection with a fatal shooting at a Cerritos park, according to Los Angeles County prosecutors.

Fatal Confrontation During Attempted Robbery

Authorities say John Moon (54, Korean name Moon Jong-Wook) and his sister Cindy Kim (58) tried to steal a car from Cuauhtemoc Garcia, 66, at Don Knabe Regional Park on February 25. When Garcia resisted, prosecutors allege the siblings shot and killed him.

They now face charges of murder and attempted second-degree robbery.

Court Sets Preliminary Hearing Date

The siblings appeared in court for their arraignment on March 28 at the Norwalk branch of Los Angeles County Superior Court. Both entered not guilty pleas to the armed robbery murder charge, said Greg Risling, spokesperson for the LA County District Attorney’s Office. Their preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 7.

Suspects Lived in Prius Before Murder Charge

Investigators say Moon and Kim were living in a silver Toyota Prius with no fixed address at the time of the crime. That detail has raised questions about possible motives behind the armed robbery murder charge.
