The cornerstone of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Santa Ana, designed by Los Angeles architect George A. Howard Jr., was laid on January 7, 1923. The capacity, cost and completion time grew with each report in the local paper, but it was reported as “one of the most beautiful church structures in Southern California” when the first services were finally held on November 4, 1923. The church continued to serve the congregation for over 50 years. It was included in the property made available by the City to Ralph Opacic for the Orange County School of the Arts in the late 90s.
