Dinerboy: Orange County Hardcore Outfit’s Musical Style Will Keep You on Your Toes

Admittedly, a lot of the newer bands covered on No Echo in recent memory fall into easy-to-categorize punk subgenres. But allow me to introduce you to Dinerboy, a sextet who ride the rhythm of their own drum.

Based out of Costa Mesa, California, Dinerboy self-titled debut EP is a musical potpourri encompassing everything from hardcore to new wave-kissed keys to ’90s alt.rock-styled hooks. “It all came together kinda fast,” says Dinerboy drummer Jimmy Brown of their formation. “Someone joked about making a hardcore band. Someone else jokingly made some demos. Once we heard those we were like, ‘oh, this is real.’ What started off as a joke (‘let’s start a hardcore band lol’) has turned into a gut-punching passion project (‘holy shit, we actually love this record’).
