Southern California is facing a storm unlike any in recent memory. The National Weather Service predicts up to 12 inches of rain in mountain areas and winds reaching 80 mph, making this one of the region’s most serious Christmas weather events in years.
The NWS forecasts 4 to 8 inches of rain in the Southland and 8 to 12 inches in mountain and foothill areas. Rainfall will peak late Tuesday night through Wednesday afternoon, followed by occasional showers lasting through Saturday.
“We haven’t had an atmospheric weather event like this in some time, probably more than four or five years,” Mark Pestrella, Director of L.A. County Public Works, told KTLA.
