Nearly 20 years after a young man was fatally shot in Highgrove, Riverside County sheriff’s investigators say an arrest has been made in the long-cold case.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of Citrus Street around 1:26 a.m. on June 18, 2006, after receiving a report of a man suffering from major injuries. When deputies arrived, they found 21-year-old Raymond Cardenas of Riverside with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators later determined that Cardenas had been shot a short distance away and ran to a nearby home seeking help before collapsing. The Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit took over the investigation and identified Anthony Miera as a suspect. At the time, however, investigators said there was not enough evidence to file charges, and the case eventually went cold…
