Grand Prairie schools, some facilities closed Wednesday due to water contamination

Grand Prairie schools and some facilities are closed Wednesday after a foaming agent was found in the city’s water supply Tuesday, officials said.

Residents north of Interstate 20 are asked to avoid using water except for flushing until further notice, according to the city’s website.

A spokesperson for the city said crews have begun cleaning out the system but still need to conduct testing on samples to make sure the water is safe. It’s unknown what caused the problem.

Water bottles are available for affected residents at Lone Star Park, at 1000 Lone Star Parkway.

Grand Prairie ISD officials said on social media that all classes and morning extracurricular activities were canceled Wednesday “out of an abundance of caution.” The regular schedule will resume Thursday.

Some city facilities, including the Kirby Creek Natatorium, Prairie Lakes Golf Course, Ruthe Jackson Center, Dalworth Recreation Center, Charley Taylor Recreation Center and Veterans Event Center are closed as well.
