Teen sentenced to life for double murder in Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, Texas — A Tarrant County jury has sentenced 19-year-old Jay Shawn Nixon-Clark, of Fort Worth, Texas, to life in prison for the 2022 shooting deaths of two individuals. The verdict was delivered on Tuesday, according to a press release from the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.

Nixon-Clark was found guilty of capital murder for his role in the shooting that occurred on August 28, 2022. On that day, Nixon-Clark and others drove through a northwest Fort Worth neighborhood, parked their car, and observed a house on Steel Dust Drive where children were playing in the garage. Nixon-Clark and another male exited the vehicle, armed and masked, and fired over a dozen shots into the garage, killing 17-year-old Jamarrien Monroe and his 5-year-old cousin, Rayshard Javon Scott. Several other family members, including Monroe’s 18-month-old son, were injured in the attack.

“They riddled that garage with bullets,” Assistant District Attorney Melinda Hogan told the jury. “They unloaded 17 rounds into the garage where five children are playing.”…
