Arctic blast will send single digit wind chills to Texas. Here’s a timeline.

The first cold front of the week came through South Texas late Saturday night , and it will result in slightly below average temperatures through the region on Sunday.

However, the bigger story is the next cold front set to arrive Tuesday night. This powerful system is expected to bring the coldest temperatures of the season, with wind chills possibly dipping into the single digits as far south as San Antonio . Sunday’s forecast

A chilly start is expected Sunday, as gusty northerly winds will send cold air into South Texas. Morning low temps will dip to the upper 30s to near 40 degrees, and when you incorporate wind speeds at around 15 mph, it’ll result in wind chill values near 30 degrees.

The front will also bring very dry air into the area, so we can expect a lot of sunshine and no chance of rain. Temps will rise to around 50 degrees by noon, then top out between 56 and 58 degrees by the late afternoon. That’s about 10 degrees below average for mid-February.

Sunday night will be quite chilly. Temps will fall back into the 40s after 7 p.m ., falling well into the 30s overnight. Low temps by early Monday will be near or slightly above the freezing mark in the San Antonio metro area. Hill Country towns will likely fall slightly below freezing.

Arctic blast timeline

Tuesday afternoon: The incoming arctic front will be pushing through parts of North and West Texas by noon on Tuesday, and it will continue to progress southward throughout the day. San Antonio is likely to experience warm temperatures, with highs reaching the upper 60s to low 70s under partly to mostly cloudy skies…
