18-wheeler fire, ice patch shuts down I-45 south of Dallas

ELLIS COUNTY, Texas — A vehicle fire and then an ice patch shut down Interstate 45 southbound through Ellis County on Thursday morning, officials said.

The crash was reported around 6 a.m. near Parker Hill Road, according to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office. A semi-truck that appeared to be carrying raw chicken or poultry caught fire, and no other vehicles were involved.

Fire crews were able to get the fire out, but the water they used froze on the roadway. The Texas Department of Transportation was en route to deal with the frozen roadway…
