North Texas, Central Texas to see increased wildfire risk this week

While the cold winter air should depart much of Texas this week, a newer, drier concern could impact heavily populated parts of the state. Forecasters with the National Weather Service across both Austin and the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex say low humidity and breezier winds may create the perfect cocktail for wildfires to spark and spread starting early in the week.

Forecasters in South Central Texas expect temperatures in the region to begin climbing into the upper 70s early in the week, making life rather pleasant in the Austin and San Antonio area.

“Enjoy the comfortable temperatures, because a notable warmup is on the way for mid to late week despite periodic frontal intrusions,” said the NWS Austin/San Antonio in its forecaster’s discussion Saturday . “In fact, Wednesday’s frontal boundary can hardly be called a cold front, as the only thing that will change behind the front will be winds shifting to more westerly Wednesday afternoon.”…
