DALLAS, Texas — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has deported 43-year-old Wilver Cota-Ortiz, of El Salvador, to his home country where he faces charges of human trafficking. Cota-Ortiz had entered the U.S. illegally and was previously convicted of assault and probation violations in Texas.
Cota-Ortiz was first arrested by the Dallas Police Department on January 9, 2010, for assault with a deadly weapon. He was convicted on April 1, 2010, and sentenced to eight years of probation. Following his conviction, ICE took custody and deported him to El Salvador on December 17, 2010, according to ICE.
He reentered the U.S. illegally and was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol on August 6, 2013, in Otay Mesa, California. He was convicted of a probation violation and sentenced to two years in prison. After serving his sentence, ICE deported him again on December 18, 2015…
