Trades for Great Deli in Bishop Arts

In Dallas’ Bishop Arts District, Trades Delicatessen offers a delightful blend of European charm and New York deli classics. Opening February of 2024, this artisanal deli quickly became a neighborhood favorite, thanks to its house-made bagels, gourmet sandwiches, and inviting atmosphere.

Trades Delicatessen is the brainchild of restaurateurs Jason Roberts and Amy Wallace Cowan, the duo behind Oddfellows and the microbrewery Jaquval. Their shared passion for quality food and community led them to transform a historic building into a culinary hub. The deli and brewery share a kitchen and an open wall, allowing patrons to seamlessly enjoy both establishments.

Trades’ menu is both approachable and elevated. For breakfast, the house-baked bagels are a standout, available in flavors like plain, everything, blueberry, onion, and poppy seed. Each bagel is priced at $2.50, with optional schmears—including veggie and cinnamon cream cheese—available for an extra $3.

The lunch menu features an array of hot and cold sandwiches served on in-house baked breads. Signature offerings include the Italian sandwich, made with mortadella, soppressata, pepperoni, provolone, and crisp toppings, and the turkey melt, with Swiss cheese, grilled onions, and honey mustard. These sandwiches are complemented by hearty, freshly made sides like potato salad, pasta salad, and broccoli salad.

The interior design of the deli mirrors its thoughtful menu. With marble-topped bistro tables, wooden chairs, fresh flower arrangements, and the soft sound of classic French music, the ambiance is cozy and refined. Large windows offer natural light and views of the bustling neighborhood outside, creating a space that feels both welcoming and transportive…
