You’ll Never Be Blue in This Lakewood Heights Cottage, Especially With a Kegerator in the Backhouse!

When I moved to Dallas fresh out of college, I landed in Lakewood Heights, and I loved it. It was one of the oldest, friendliest, and most walkable neighborhoods in the city just filled with historic homes. After speaking with the owners of this adorable blue Lakewood Heights cottage, I’m pleased to say that nothing has changed. In fact, it has only gotten better.

Maddy Lynch and Logan Dziak were living in an apartment in Uptown. They were ready for a house, and their three French bulldogs were ready for a yard, but no one was ready for the suburbs. “We wanted a neighborhood that was walkable,” Lynch said. When they saw the quaint 1933 blue Lakewood Heights cottage, it was not only affordable but had plenty of things nearby they could walk to.

The cottage had some excellent historic details that were intact, like beautiful archways, original hardwood floors, and a Batchelder fireplace. If you aren’t familiar with this vintage tile, let me just tell you a single tile can be worth hundreds of dollars.

Because everyone was excited about the big backyard, turf was a priority. It’s a game changer when you have dogs — think no more muddy paws! The fun updates were put on hold for a while as the couple worked on making their home energy-efficient by fully encapsulating the attic and replacing the back door and several windows.

Another excellent asset on the property is the backhouse. It had been the ultimate man cave, complete with a kegerator and serving window, until Dziak’s brother mentioned he had an internship in Dallas. The couple got to work, adding a bathroom and creating a comfortable guest house for him. And yes, the kegerator is still there because isn’t that the ultimate guest amenity?

It’s a bittersweet goodbye because Lynch and Dziak have loved this home and the neighborhood.

“There is a neighborhood Facebook page; we have block parties, and we’ve had neighbors show up with homemade bread,” Lynch said. “It’s so easy to walk to Times Ten Cellars or to get coffee or ice cream. It’s a delightful neighborhood. We have a great mix of people from little kids running around and biking to neighbors who have been here for decades. It’s very active; people are always out doing things, and Tietze Park is only a few blocks away.”

While the couple will miss their very first home and neighborhood, their family is expanding, so they need a bit more square footage. That means you have an outstanding opportunity to snag this adorable Lakewood Heights cottage and have the added benefit of potential rental income with the backhouse to offset your mortgage. Win-Win!…
