Fire disrupts DART rail service; modified schedule in effect this morning

A DART train caught fire Wednesday afternoon just after exiting the downtown tunnel near Pearl/Arts District Station, sending smoke and sparks into the tunnel system and forcing the evacuation of about 40 people.

Six riders were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and nine more were treated at the scene before emergency crews doused the flames and shut off power in the affected section of the Red, Blue and Yellow lines.

As a result, DART rail service is running on a modified schedule this morning while crews remove the damaged train, restore the power system, and assess infrastructure along the corridor…
