A malfunction at a Texas food plant has resulted in a nationwide recall of millions of pounds of corn dogs and sausages on a stick, which could now have wood mixed into the batter, according to company and federal officials.
The Hillshire Brands Co., which has a facility outside of Fort Worth, has recalled roughly 58 million pounds of Jimmy Dean and State Fair products after realizing wooden sticks had “entered the production process” before its food was battered, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The company has received reports of five consumer injuries, and the affected food was packaged for half a year from March to September, according to the USDA.
