IRVING — Scouting America – the organization formerly known as Boy Scouts of America – says it is “surprised and disappointed” following reports that Pete Hegseth is pushing to sever long-standing ties between the U.S. military and the scouting group.
According to recent reporting based on a draft memo reviewed by NPR, Hegseth proposes ending Pentagon support for guiding resources to the scouting organization’s events – including the National Jamboree – and barring Scout troops from meeting on military installations.
Founded in 1910 and headquartered in Irving, Scouting America changed its name from Boy Scouts in early 2025.
