Iowa Park teen awaits heart transplant after lifelong battle with rare condition

IOWA PARK (KFDX/KJTL) — A 16-year-old Iowa Park High School junior is awaiting a heart transplant in Dallas after battling a rare congenital heart defect since before he was born.

Tyler Lipe is currently at Children’s Medical Center Dallas, where he is waiting for a donor heart, the most critical step yet in a medical journey that began in the womb.

Tyler was diagnosed before birth with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, or HLHS, a severe congenital defect that affects blood flow through the heart. His first procedure occurred before he was even born, and he has since undergone multiple open-heart surgeries…
