Aw Shucks Has Over 40 Years of Gulf Coast Flavor

For more than four decades, Aw Shucks Oyster Bar has been a seafood staple in Dallas, dishing out coastal charm, Southern hospitality, and fresh-off-the-boat flavor right on Lower Greenville Avenue. Since first opening its doors in 1983, Aw Shucks has earned a reputation as the go-to spot for raw oysters, spicy crawfish, and ice-cold beer in a come-as-you-are, beach-style setting.

Aw Shucks was founded by Robert “Bob” Peterson, a visionary restaurateur with a passion for Gulf seafood and a knack for laid-back dining experiences. Under Bob’s leadership, Aw Shucks quickly developed a loyal following, thanks to its fresh ingredients and relaxed vibe. Today, the restaurant is still a family-run operation, overseen by Bob’s son, Nick Peterson, who continues to uphold the values that made Aw Shucks a neighborhood institution.

Step into Aw Shucks and you’re instantly transported to the coast. The decor is rustic and welcoming—blue-and-white striped awnings, aged wood pilings, string lights, and crushed shells underfoot give off a weathered dockside feel. Guests order at the counter, then find a seat on the covered patio or inside the casual dining room. True to its laid-back spirit, Aw Shucks uses an honor system: diners tell the cashier what they had when it’s time to settle the bill.

Aw Shucks’ menu is a celebration of Gulf Coast flavors, served up with Texas flair. A few house favorites include:

Raw Oysters (Half or Full Dozen, Market Price): Fresh from the Gulf and shucked to order, served simply with lemon and cocktail sauce…
