Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico is set to be the commencement speaker at Paul Quinn College on Saturday, according to a statement released by the institution on Friday. The commencement speaker for the ceremonies was kept secret in the days leading up to the event, with a teaser video being posted on the institution’s social media pages on April 29th. Paul Quinn then posted a video to social media of Talarico announcing that he would be the commencement speaker.
Paul Quinn College president Dr. Michael J. Sorrell spoke about the selection of Talarico in a statement, saying, “We are in the midst of historically significant times. Acknowledging this reality, we felt that it was particularly important that we present a commencement speaker to our community who can speak to this moment in time. Representative Talarico more than possesses the ability to do so. He has chosen a life of purpose, conviction, service, and sacrifice. He understands that real leadership requires the willingness to speak the uncomfortable truths to the audiences who need to hear them. Saturday will be a special day.”
Talarico expressed excitement for the opportunity to address Paul Quinn graduates, saying, “I am deeply honored to join Paul Quinn College in celebrating the Class of 2026. Paul Quinn’s commitment to developing students who lead with purpose, serve with conviction, and work for the common good is both inspiring and urgently needed. I look forward to honoring these graduates and encouraging them as they begin the next chapter of their lives.”…
