Inmate found unresponsive at Rankin County Jail dies

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – An investigation is underway after an inmate was found unresponsive in the Rankin County Adult Detention Center.

According to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, the inmate was found unresponsive on June 9, 2026. Authorities said after life-saving measures were attempted, the inmate was pronounced deceased.

Brothers accused of shooting Covington County deputy denied bond

The Rankin County deputy coroner identified the man as Aaron J. Hodges. His body was transported to the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) will investigate the case.
