Inmate killed in Hinds County jail believed to be gang-related, sheriff says

HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) – UPDATE: The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is leading a homicide investigation, and Hinds County Sheriff’s Office officials are leading an internal investigation in connection with the death of inmate Mieulin Butler.

On Monday, Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones confirmed that Butler was assaulted and beaten to death during the incident that occurred on Friday.

Sheriff Jones believes the incident was gang-related. He also called for more resources to help maintain the jail, with the jail responsible for housing between 930 and 950 pre-trial detainees…
