JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Construction and maintenance crews working on bridge repairs, roads, and potholes in the Jackson metro area are taking protective measures as heat advisories remain in effect.
MDOT emphasizes protective equipment, early starts
The Mississippi Department of Transportation said personal protective equipment is key to keeping workers healthy during heat advisories. Workers begin their shifts in the morning with the goal of finishing by noon.
“We make sure our crews are given the proper PPE during heat advisory weather including lightweight clothing, cooling vest, rim hats, neck gators that help protect skin from the sun and umbrellas as well,” said Michael Flood.
MDOT conducts daily safety huddles with construction crews, covering how to use shade, the warning signs of heat stroke, and how to prevent heat-related illness.
