JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A downtown Jackson shelter is opening its doors to anyone looking to escape the dangerous heat, as temperatures with the heat index climb above 100 degrees.
Gateway Rescue Mission has seen more than a dozen people come through its doors each day this week seeking a place to cool off and stay hydrated.
On Wednesday alone, roughly 15 people came to the shelter looking to escape the heat — including one person who was rushed to the hospital due to a heat-related illness.
